As part of a 2006 California Academy of Sciences Research expedition, I assisted in research and filmed the wildlife of this remote pacific atoll. The Tempest and the Time Machine is a rough cut of a film featuring one of our new National Marine Monuments. These remote islands will help us better understand these complex and beautiful coral ecosystems; protect fish populations including sharks; and allow scientists to compare human impacts on other islands, as well as predict future human and climatic impacts on our oceans and coral reef ecosystems, and how we might act to mitigate these impacts.
